HIE Accreditation

The Texas HIE Accreditation program is designed to improve HIE coverage and interoperabilty for all Texans and provides a mechanism to establish trust in HIE.

The Texas HIE Accreditation Program will accredit qualified HIE applicants within the state of Texas to ensure they are operating under accepted and uniform standards in the handling of protected health information (PHI).

In October 2013, the THSA partnered with the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC), a non-profit standards development organization, to assist in the development and operation of the accreditation program.

The THSA Collaboration Council recently finished developing program criteria such as technical performance, business processes, resource management, and other relevant information to ensure that accredited HIEs within Texas are interoperable with state and federal programs, and provide the private and secure exchange of health information in accordance with established laws and public policy.

On March 24, 2014, the THSA and EHNAC jointly published the proposed program criteria for public review and comment. The program criteria was finalized on August 4, 2014.
